Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Veltiosoft Inc. (“Veltiosoft”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with Cordierite, our local-first dictation app for macOS, and this website at cordierite.veltiosoft.com (together, the “Service”).

Scope

This policy applies to the Cordierite macOS application and the Cordierite product website. It does not cover third-party websites or services that Cordierite may link to.

On-device processing

Cordierite transcribes speech on your Mac. Audio and transcript data are processed locally using Apple Speech. We do not receive, store, or transmit your voice recordings or transcription results to our servers.

If the speech recognition language model is not yet installed on your Mac, macOS downloads it from Apple’s servers, for example during first-time setup. This download does not send your audio or transcription results to Apple or to us.

Data we do not persist

Cordierite does not save the following as in-app content:

  • Voice recordings
  • Full session transcripts as a reviewable history log

When a dictation session ends, audio is not retained. Full transcripts are not saved as a history you can browse later.

Local storage on your Mac

To provide the dictionary and replacement features and to improve recognition quality, Cordierite may store the following data locally in your Mac’s Application Support directory. This data stays on your device only and is not sent to our servers.

  • App settings such as hotkey and language preferences
  • Dictionary entries
  • Replacement entries
  • Recognition hint terms derived from your dictionary entries
  • Replacement entries created from edits you confirm in the review panel (only when review-before-pasting is enabled in Settings)
  • Term usage statistics used to adjust replacement priority (planned)

When review-before-pasting is enabled, Cordierite shows an editable transcript panel after dictation. Replacement entries are created from the edits you confirm there.

Automatic collection of correction suggestions is off by default.

This data remains on your device unless you remove it by deleting the app or its support files.

macOS permissions

Cordierite requests the following macOS permissions:

  • Microphone — to capture your voice for transcription
  • Input Monitoring — to detect global hotkeys
  • Accessibility — to paste transcribed text into the app you are using
  • Removable Volumes — during app updates, to mount the downloaded disk image (DMG) and read the new app. Not required for everyday dictation, and not used to access the contents of external drives or USB media

Permission status is checked locally to guide setup. We do not collect permission status on our servers.

Diagnostic information for support

Cordierite includes a feature that lets you copy diagnostic information on demand. We use that information for troubleshooting only when you choose to send it to us manually, for example via Discord or email.

Diagnostic information may include:

  • App version and build number
  • macOS version and Mac hardware model name
  • Microphone, Input Monitoring, and Accessibility permission status
  • Configuration values such as input mode and hotkey
  • The tail of the app’s internal log (technical activity records)

Diagnostic information does not include recorded audio, transcription text, or your dictionary and replacement entries. Cordierite does not send diagnostic information automatically.

Software updates

Cordierite includes an in-app update feature powered by the Sparkle framework. After launch, the app periodically contacts our distribution server (cordierite.veltiosoft.com) to check for new versions, and downloads the update disk image (DMG) from the same server when an update is available.

These requests do not contain voice recordings, transcription results, or your dictionary and replacement entries. Standard server or CDN logs maintained by our hosting provider may include technical information such as IP address, a User-Agent string that includes the app name and version, and the requested URL.

This website

The Cordierite website is a static product page. We do not currently use analytics, advertising trackers, or similar measurement tools on this site. Standard web server or CDN logs maintained by our hosting provider may include technical information such as IP address, browser type, and requested URL.

Pro plan (planned)

Cordierite may offer an optional paid tier called Pro in the future. Pro is planned but not available yet. If we introduce subscriptions or other paid features, payment processing may be handled by a third-party provider. In that case, billing-related information would be processed according to that provider’s terms and our updated policies. We will revise this page before Pro or other paid features become available.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
